Our Approach

CEYW develops Empowering Skills:

The Center for Empowering Young Women (CEYW) focuses on leadership, mentoring, political and legal education, as well as therapy and other health and wellness services. We address the young woman at risk's need for employment, as well as the need for a safe place to live, as well the need to connect to peers who understand each other in crisis. The goal is to build positive relations and true sisterhood.

We respond immediately to all of the needs of a young woman; emotional, economic, legal and social. We help our young women to recognize and rely on their considerable strengths such as resiliency, creativity, intelligence and their own social networks. We recognize and validate their life experience. We at CEYW provide them with leadership skills that stabilize and assist our young women to grow stronger. And we create public opportunities so that they will exercise newly found strengths.

Our proven methodology integrates theoretical and practical approaches from the fields of social services, youth development and youth advocacy. We work to develop organizing, leadership, personal wellness, spiritual and somatic growth skills as well as economic self-sufficiency.

We believe that fighting oppression is central to a process of healing. We believe that it is crucial for young women to have an understanding of systemic oppression and how it manifests in their lives.

Social Change and Sisterhood:

We at CEYW, believe that to heal, young women need to recognize and understand the systems of oppression that affect their lives. We inspire young women to be committed to social change and to resist the abuse of power at all levels. We believe in the power of sisterhood. We believe in young women helping other young women. We believe every young woman has the capacity to become a leader.

Holistic Healing Model:

At The Center for Empowering Young Women we take a holistic approach. Recognizing the multidimensional and nuanced needs of young women in crisis, we simultaneously address the various issues young women are facing in order to maximize and sustain each young woman’s wellness and empowerment.
